Caring for Artists & Arts that Heal

The Second USF-Performing Arts and Medicine Association (PAMA) Conference will be held on February 27-March 1, 2015 at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. You are invited to submit an abstract on topics that cover a broad spectrum of research and practice relating to Performing Arts Medicine including caring for artists and broader use of the arts as healing agents and facilitators of learning in other disciplines.

Dancing Between Barriers and Freedom

With all of the bombing, destruction and suffering exchanged between Israel and Gaza recently, it's hard to believe that just a short time ago, as these conditions were developing, we were in the middle of it all, creating, dancing and sharing.  It was an amazing experience wherein we made some friends who were in the studio creating and moving with freedom and joy one minute, then headed home through streets that were surrounded by checkpoints and barriers the next.  It was these barriers that would come to serve as creative influence to our work in Ramallah.

Dancing Mommy

There are so many things to discuss as a new mom. Even more as a working mom. And an infinite amount as a dancing, working mom. The possibility of ideas have swirled through my head constantly since being asked to write about what it's like... Being a mom and being a professional dancer. I have written and rewritten this over and over again. I have remembered my pregnancy, labor, delivery and the last four months in detail to pick out the points that mean the most. But, as moms know, every moment can tell the truth in its most beautiful and at the same time it's ugliest form. So I have settled on Saturday.

Big Shoes to Fill

This past June, Suzanne Pomerantzeff, a legend of the Tampa Bay Area dance community, retired from the Pinellas County Center for the Arts (PCCA) at Gibbs High School. Ms. P, as she was affectionately called by her students, was responsible for the development of the PCCA dance program and, until her retirement, served as the ballet department chairperson. Suzanne touched the lives of many people during her time at PCCA, with her reach going well beyond that of the dance department and her dancers.

30 Years of CoMotion

Congratulations CoMotion Dance Theatre! The dance program at St. Petersburg College began with a few technique classes but soon grew into something much more. For the past 29 years CoMotion has been enriching the St. Petersburg Area with dance performances.
